Design Ideas

Clematis vines and small trees make excellent partners. We used a couple of permanent wires to run this “Jackmani” Clematis up and into the Dogwood.

Do It Yourself

You can let the Clematis climb into and through shrubs, small trees, or even run along the ground as a ground cover. Make sure you are careful of the tree’s roots when you plant. A Clematis needs an 18” x 18” x 18” hole and the soil should be heavily amended with compost to get it off to a good start. Also, bury the top of the Clematis at least two inches below ground. The first spring, cut it to the ground and it will take off for you.
