Interested in a Springfield Chapter of the Missouri Native Plant Society?

On Tuesday, March 9th at 6 PM at the Nature Center's Sunshine Room there will be an exploratory meeting is determine if there is an interest in starting a Springfield Area chapter of the Missouri Native Plant Society. If you are not familiar with this group, it has been in existence for 25 years.

There is an obvious interest in the botany of Missouri, including propagation and conservation, within the group. The membership experience ranges from researchers to backyard gardeners interested in growing wildflowers for butterflies. I have 'bummed' around with the founders of this group when we lived in the St. Louis area. We moved to Springfield four years ago and I was looking forward to botanical experiences in the area and was surprised that a local chapter of MoNPS was missing.

The Nature Center site is reserved for this year only.  No other time is available there. If the group forms, we could find another site convient to the members time and locaton. The Nature Center is experiencing severe financial cut-backs as a result of the economic downturn.

Pass this information to anyone you think might have an interest in native plants. I hope we will have a nucleus group there on March 9th. Email me if you have ideas or resources we could use.

Take care
